In this workshop you will learn the techniques to running a successful event, including what makes an effective press release that will ensure that your event gets news coverage, how radio advertising can work for you, and what makes your posters look like CRAP (and why that might be a good thing).

Join us at the North Peace Cultural Centre with representatives from Alaska Highway News, Bell Media(Sun FM & The Bear radio), and graphic designer/performing artist John MacLachlan as we examine some best practises and tips to make every event we put on as successful as possible.

As an artist or as someone who works in the arts, how do you connect with buyers, viewers, listeners, attendees, customers? Identifying who your potential audience is and then creating clear marketing materials goes a long way to helping people connect with what you do.

This three-part workshop will

Discuss core marketing concepts to help you articulate “what you do” and then identify ways to clearly articulate that Learn how important effective images are in portraying the story behind what you are selling (it even includes some nuts and bolts talk about resolution and formats) Discover the basics and importance of strong graphic design through examples and a hands-on exercise. You will learn how critical it is to convey your messages in clear, graphical ways with tips on utilizing contrast, alignment, repetition, and proximity in your marketing pieces (online or offline). In addition, you’ll see how what typography you use influences your message (or even how type can be used as design). Mixed in is lively discussion and even some fun-fact history of this topic.
