× Art Now: What's Happening in Contemporary Art Part 1, Lisa MacLean An Audio/Visual Lecture Series

What's it all about, Alfie? Do you go to an art gallery or museum and wonder about why artists do the things they do? Do you feel confused about what you see in exhibitions? Are you interested in knowing more about contemporary art? This A/V presentation series will illustrate a wide range of contemporary art media—painting and drawing, sculpture and installation, photography and photo-based art in Part One this Fall, print media, video and film, and performance and street art in Part Two in Spring 2018—and the work of several influential artists.

Artist Bio: Lisa MacLean, the manager of Peace Gallery North, has a PhD in interdisciplinary studies and an MFA in visual art from UBC. She has also studied at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and has taught in several postsecondary institutions, including Vancouver Island University, UBC, SFU, and Emily Carr University of Art & Design. In addition to working in the cultural sector as a gallery director, volunteer, and board member, Lisa is an award-winning artist and film-maker, exhibiting nationally and internationally in many galleries, artist-run centres, museums, and film festivals. She has designed and led study abroad programs to Italy and Turkey, focusing on Western cultural history, art, architecture, philosophy, and literature.
