× Beginner Fasion Illustration with Print & Pattern, Catherine Ruddell

In this workshop Catherine will guide participants through drawing their own fashion croquis (figures), designing a basic garment, and adding blockprint patterns to create a unique, one of a kind image. All skill levels welcome - Catherine will share lots of tips and tricks if you are still building confidence with your drawing skills!

Artist Bio: Catherine Ruddell was born and raised in Fort St John. As a young adult she studied Art History, and earned diplomas in both Fashion Design and Interior Decorating while living in Vancouver. Upon returning to the North in 2008, she helped create the Whole Wheat & Honey Café, spending the last five years as General Manager. She was also an ambassador & caretaker for the City of Fort St John Demonstration Passive House Project, where she completed a month long Artist Residency in August 2016.

As a textile artist and surface pattern designer, Catherine is inspired by nature walks, northern landscapes, and sustainable living. Her work is driven by a desire to bring the beauty of the outdoors into the home through her graphic, modern and organic designs.

Catherine most enjoys working through handmade methods – bold explorations on paper with ink, hand carved block printing on fabric, as well as painting large scale wall hangings. Since moving to Prince George in 2017, she has begun translating themes & motifs from her original artwork into digital surface patterns. Her love of sewing, fashion, and quilting has inspired her to offer her fabric designs available for purchase online - so that her imagery can be incorporated by other sewists into their own meaningful personal projects. Teaching through creative workshops has become an enjoyable way for Catherine to engage with other professed or aspiring artists. She believes we find purpose and connection in the creative process of making by hand; this grows appreciation for the true effort of art and craft, and helps to build aware and conscious consumers.
